THE ROLE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN DEVELOPING EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AMONG STUDENTS: A REVIEW IN EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS
One of the areas where the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become more relevant is in the field of education, not only for the acquisition of knowledge, but also for the emotional intelligence of the students. This review will discuss how AI can be used as a tool to support student emotional intelligence in education. The review focuses on five areas: Emotion recognition, personalized/ adaptive learning systems, emotional wellbeing and stress management, motivation and engagement, and conversational AI for emotional support. The analyzed findings in the reviewed studies show that AI systems can detect students' emotions, customize students' learning experiences, relieve students' stress, and provide students with emotional and academic support when needed. Emotion-aware and adaptive AI tools can improve students' self-awareness and emotional regulation, motivation, engagement, and persistence in learning. Conversational AI also benefits students through its empathetic interactions, fostering reflection and emotional wellness. Yet, there are issues that need to be tackled, such as data privacy, ethical issues, transparency and access equality. To conclude, the benefits of AI in advancing EI for students have been highlighted in the review.
