SMART CLASSROOMS, SMARTER LEARNERS: TRANSFORMING ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING THROUGH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TODAY

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is playing a major role in changing how English Language Teaching (ELT) is done by moving from traditional teaching methods to more interactive and learner-focused approaches. As more AI-based educational tools are being used, both teachers and students have access to smart systems that support personalized learning and better language skills. AI-powered platforms, digital assistants, apps for grammar and pronunciation, and adaptive learning systems are changing the way English is taught and learned. These tools provide tailored feedback, adjust to different learning levels, and create engaging learning environments that help students become more independent, motivated, and continuously improving. This paper looks at how AI supports the improvement of the four key language skills – listening, speaking, reading, and writing – through real-time feedback, pronunciation help, vocabulary growth, and grammar improvements. It also discusses how data-driven analysis helps teachers identify learning challenges and create better teaching strategies. Although AI offers many advantages in education, there are also challenges, such as too much dependence on technology, lack of teacher training, ethical and privacy issues, and biased algorithms. The study highlights the changing role of teachers as guides and mentors in AI-enhanced classrooms, where human expertise works together with technology. It advises on the thoughtful and responsible use of AI in ELT, emphasizing that technology should support, not replace, the human aspects of teaching. By promoting digital skills, critical thinking, and responsible AI use, educators can create inclusive and dynamic learning environments that prepare students with the language skills and adaptability needed in the twenty-first century.
