Pengaruh Stigma Sosial terhadap Kecenderungan Residivisme pada Klien Pemasyarakatan Kasus Narkotika di Balai Pemasyarakatan Kelas I Makassar

Social stigma remains one of the major social barriers faced by former narcotics offenders after completing their criminal sentences. Negative labeling, stereotypes, social exclusion, and discrimination frequently hinder their reintegration into society and may increase the likelihood of reoffending. This research investigates the influence of social stigma on recidivism tendencies among narcotics-related correctional clients at the Makassar Class I Correctional Center. A quantitative methodology was adopted through an explanatory survey design. The sample consisted of 95 respondents drawn from a population of 1,799 narcotics correctional clients, with participants selected using purposive sampling. Data were obtained through a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire that had undergone validity and reliability assessments. The measurement of social stigma was based on Link and Phelan’s stigma theory, encompassing labeling, stereotyping, social separation, and discrimination. Meanwhile, recidivism tendency was assessed using Hirschi’s Social Control Theory, which consists of attachment, commitment, involvement, and belief. The collected data were processed using descriptive statistical analysis and simple linear regression with SPSS version 26. The results demonstrate that social stigma exerts a positive and statistically significant influence on recidivism tendencies (p < 0.05). The coefficient of determination further shows that social stigma accounts for a considerable proportion of the variance in recidivism tendencies, whereas the remaining variation can be attributed to factors not included in the research model. Of the social stigma dimensions analyzed, negative stereotyping was identified as the most influential predictor of recidivism tendencies. These findings emphasize that reducing social stigma and strengthening community acceptance are essential components of successful social reintegration programs for former narcotics offenders.
