BRILIAN Validation and Monitoring plan D5.1
This deliverable presents the BRILIAN Validation and Monitoring Plan, establishing the roadmap for the implementation, development and monitoring of the project’s three pilots in Italy, Spain and Denmark. The plan supports the deployment of BRILIAN Actions for Bio-Innovation in real environments, with the overall objective of validating ten vertical bio-based value chains based on the valorisation of agricultural feedstocks, by-products and industrial food waste. The Italian pilot focuses on regenerative agricultural practices and the cultivation of low-input oil crops on marginal and unproductive land. The resulting biomass and agro-feedstocks are valorised into bio-based products including bioplastics, animal feed, edible mushroom substrates, biolubricants, bioherbicides and biostimulants. The Spanish pilot addresses the recovery of starch from potato processing by-products and wastewater, targeting its valorisation in applications such as bioplastics and cosmetics while improving water management and reducing chemical oxygen demand. The Danish pilot focuses on the extraction of proteins from rapeseed cake for food applications and bio-based adhesives. For each pilot, the deliverable defines the implementation and operational activities, technical targets, monitoring parameters, methodologies and monitoring frequencies. The plan also supports the collection of data for the wider assessment of the project’s social, economic, organisational, technical and environmental performance. Overall, the deliverable provides a common framework for monitoring pilot progress, identifying potential deviations and supporting the validation and future replicability of BRILIAN’s bio-based value chains.
