Diversity of Locally Recognized Durian (Durio zibethinus L.) Cultivars in Candimulyo Subdistrict, Magelang Regency, Central Java, Indonesia
This study aimed to inventory locally recognized (farmer-named) durian (Durio zibethinus L.) cultivars in Candimulyo Subdistrict, Magelang Regency, Central Java, Indonesia, based on morphological characterization of vegetative and generative characters, and to analyze their diversity using the Shannon-Wiener index (H'), as no such inventory had been conducted in the area. A descriptive exploratory survey with purposive sampling was carried out at ten observation stations in five villages (about 7.25 ha surveyed in total), where all durian trees encountered were recorded by direct census and 37 characters were described following the Descriptors for Durian. Twelve cultivar names were recorded among 840 trees: Andalas, Bawor, Dandang Sariti, Ketan, Kidang, Lokal Candimulyo, Mentega, Montong, Orange, Sapi, Susu Molek, and Tembaga. Bawor was the most abundant (225 trees) and Tembaga the rarest (2 trees). Village H' ranged from 0.69 (Tegalsari) to 1.70 (Kembaran). H' values differed among villages, although sample sizes and survey areas differed among villages. Because only morphological data were used, the results document locally recognized cultivar types and do not demonstrate genetic distinctness. The findings provide baseline data for documenting local durian germplasm in Candimulyo Subdistrict.
