In Vitro Evaluation of Specialised Anti-Acne Gel: Targeting Cutibacterium Acnes and Lipase Activity
Acne vulgaris is a skin disorder marked by excessive sebum production, inflammation, and microbial proliferation. Lipases play an essential role in the pathogenesis of acne, as they hydrolyze triglycerides in sebum to produce free fatty acids causing irritation and inflammation of hair follicles. A herbal formulation of an anti-acne gel containing patharchatta leaf extract. Patharchatta is a therapeutic plant used to treat various skin ailments. The leaves contain a variety of bioactive components such as flavonoids, phenolics, and tannins, which could improve its health benefits. Physical properties were investigated to determine the appearance, homogeneity, PH value, viscosity, spreadability, extrudability, and stability of the gel. We also investigated the potential of the gel to inhibit lipase activity using an appropriate laboratory method and comparing it to a standard reference. The purpose of this study was to examine the potential for using patharchatta (bryophyllum pinnatum) leaf extract as a natural component to formulate an anti-acne topical gel to inhibit lipase activity.
