Information metamorphosis explained in full
The complete series behind the paper: Freriks G, Rossi Mori A. "Isolated Data Do Not Become Information: Preserving Context at the Source for the European Health Data Space". Medical Informatics Europe (MIE) 2027, submitted. (reference [14] of the paper). Information metamorphosis is the transformation that data undergo each time an actor interprets them for a purpose and produces new data for the next actor, the same actor or software. The series explains it in ten documents: DP-Metam-01 Why exchanging data is not continuity of information; DP-Metam-02 The elementary process: five moments of one receiver; DP-Metam-03 The operations of metamorphosis; DP-Metam-04 Passages, accounting and invariants; DP-SLG-01 The states of clinical data: solid, liquid and gaseous; DP-SemLay-01 Semantic layers and languages of care; DP-Imperf-01 Imperfection, time, uncertainty and AI; DP-Cases-01 Worked cases of information metamorphosis (with the canonical facts of the cases); DP-GenStd-01 Genealogy, standards, applications and method; DP-Gloss-01 Glossary of information metamorphosis. The record also holds the annotated bibliography shared by all the documents, as a library to import into Zotero (BIBLIO-01, RIS and BibTeX, 100 items, each tagged with where it is used and what was actually read). Related records: the compact supplementary material of the paper (doi:10.5281/zenodo.23926086, reference [6]) and the extended treatment of context and the EHDS (doi:10.5281/zenodo.23926088, reference [13]). The documents are working texts meant to open a discussion, not to settle it. They were written by the authors with the support of Claude (Anthropic) through an approach of augmented reasoning: the sources used are made explicit, unverified statements are flagged, and the most significant statements carry a reliability marker ({T} full convergence of independent sources, {P} partial convergence, {L} insufficient or non-independent sources, {I} inference from general knowledge). The persons in the cases are constructed teaching cases, not real patients. Each document is provided as PDF and as editable DOCX.
