Sinergi Elektrokoagulasi–Adsorpsi dalam Penyisihan Ion Cu(II) dari Larutan: Evaluasi Kinerja dan Studi Kinetika

The present investigation requires to investigate the efficiency of the hybrid electrocoagulation-adsorption approach for removal Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions by investigating the impact of contact time, initial concentration, and pH, reaction kinetics, theoretical mass of dissolved electrodes, and electrical energy consumption. The findings demonstrated that the efficiency of Cu(II) removal improved rapidly during the initial phase of the process, with over 80% of the metal ions eliminated within the first 10–20 minutes, attributed to the vigorous formation of metal hydroxide coagulants and the prevalence of adsorption and sweep flocculation mechanisms. The fluctuations in initial Cu(II) concentration between 30–70 mg/L exhibited little alterations in efficiency (91–92%), suggesting that the availability of active sites and coagulant generation remained enough to accommodate the rising pollutant load within that range. Kinetic analysis indicated that the first-order model yielded the optimal fit, evidenced by the highest coefficient of determination (R²) value, suggesting that the removal rate was affected by the residual Cu(II) concentration in the solution. With an increase in contact time, the theoretical mass of the dissolved electrode, electrical energy consumption, and specific energy consumption rise linearly, attributable to the accumulation of electrical charges imparted during the process. However, the increased amount of energy is not invariably commensurate with the enhancement of efficiency at the terminal phase of the process as the system nears equilibrium. Electrocoagulation-adsorption is demonstrated to be efficient and rapid for treating Cu(II)-containing wastewater, exhibiting excellent efficacy and regulated kinetic properties.
