Arte popular en el paisaje lingüístico del Port de Pêchede Nuakchot (Mauritania)
Nouakchott is a multilingual and diverse capital reflecting the different cultural and linguistic components of Mauritania, a country situated between the Maghreb and West Africa. The aim of this article is to analyze the signs —textual and pictorial— that decorate the boats at the Port de Pêche of the capital, as multigraphic and multilingual elements that are part of the linguistic landscape (LL). For this purpose, the languages present and their representations in the sociocultural context of Mauritania have been analyzed, as well as the decorative elements, considered as components of the country’s folk artistic production. In this way, the signs on the boats are linked to magical-religious practices present in the region and evoke the social and cultural identity of the community of fishermen.
