Improving asthma care: a call for leadership in health, equity and climate

Now is the time for a co-ordinated revolution in asthma care in Aotearoa New Zealand. New Zealand can and should accelerate uptake of guideline-based single maintenance and reliever therapy and actively reduce the unnecessary use of therapies based only on short-acting beta agonists. These two actions together will achieve three important goals: reduced avoidable asthma harm, reduced health inequity and reduced healthcare greenhouse gas emissions. Leadership is required from clinicians, manufacturers, policymakers, funders and Pharmac.
