Factsheet | Data Integration: Field Measurements, Remote Sensing and Modelling

This MRV4SOC Factsheet examines how field measurements, remote sensing technologies and modelling approaches can be integrated to improve Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) monitoring from farm to landscape scale. The factsheet presents the project’s approach to combining ground-based observations with satellite data, proximal sensing, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) surveys and machine-learning techniques. It highlights the potential of Copernicus and other Earth observation data sources to support spatial mapping and the development of soil-related indicators. Particular attention is given to uncertainty assessment, model calibration and the use of proxy datasets to extend monitoring beyond individual demonstration sites. The factsheet illustrates how integrated data workflows can contribute to more scalable, transparent and cost-effective monitoring, reporting and verification systems for carbon farming.
