The Viscosity Is a Band: The Urca Profile of a Merger Remnant, Derived as a Resonance

The Urca bulk viscosity assumed in Chabanov & Rezzolla (2307.10464) is derived as a resonance profile from the reaction rate laws: half-maximum temperature bands of factor 1.93 (direct Urca) and 1.55 (modified Urca), band addresses stable to <1.8x under 10x rate errors, and the two channels shown non-overlapping (modified Urca at <=1.3e-3 of its peak wherever direct Urca resonates).

Abstract

The Urca bulk viscosity assumed in Chabanov & Rezzolla (2307.10464) is derived as a resonance profile from the reaction rate laws: half-maximum temperature bands of factor 1.93 (direct Urca) and 1.55 (modified Urca), band addresses stable to <1.8x under 10x rate errors, and the two channels shown non-overlapping (modified Urca at <=1.3e-3 of its peak wherever direct Urca resonates).
