THE IMPACT OF GREEN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES ON ENHANCING ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE AND ORGANIZATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF EMPLOYEES’ ENVIRONMENTAL BEHAVIOR: AN APPLIED STUDY OF ALMARAI COMPANY FOR FOOD PRODUCTS IN THE KI

This study aims to analyze the impact of green human resource management (GHRM) practices on enhancing environmental performance and organizational sustainability, while examining the mediating role of employees’ environmental behavior, as applied to Almarai Company for Food Products in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The study is important in light of growing interest in integrating environmental considerations into human resource management policies, particularly in industrial and food organizations whose operations involve the use of energy, water, and raw materials, as well as waste management and packaging. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to develop its theoretical framework and conceptual model, and proposes a quantitative field-survey design using a questionnaire to measure green recruitment, environmental training and development, green performance management and rewards, and employee participation in environmental initiatives, in addition to employees’ environmental behavior, environmental performance, and organizational sustainability. It also draws on ability–motivation–opportunity theory, stakeholder theory, and the resource-based view and organizational capabilities perspective. To illustrate how the model could be tested, a statistical analysis based on a sample of 250 responses is presented, using correlation coefficients, regression, and bootstrapping-based mediation analysis. The study interprets the positive relationship between GHRM and environmental performance and considers the extent to which employees’ environmental behavior transmits part of the effect of management practices to environmental and organizational outcomes. The study offers an analytical model linking human resource policies to environmental behavior and organizational outcomes, as well as practical recommendations for developing environmental training, integrating environmental indicators into performance appraisal, and strengthening participation in sustainable improvement. It also proposes future research to test the model using actual data from the Saudi food sector.
