A Critique of Einstein's Theory of Relativity: Time Does Not Change
Einstein’s theory of relativity holds that “time itself changes with the speed of motion and with gravity.” Against this, the present paper offers the view that “time itself (absolute time) flows uniformly and does not change. What changes is the clock, that is, the time of the motion of matter (relative time).”This view rests on the author’s cosmological model (the Shohachi model; Nomura 2026). In the Shohachi model, our three-dimensional universe (the universe-dimensional space) is the horizon of a black hole in a space with more directions (the gravity-dimensional space). The speed of light is constant as a property of this horizon, and the content of matter is a collection of energy moving at the speed of light. Then: (1) when matter moves at speed v, the speed of the motion inside it drops to c × √(1 − v²/c²), and the same clock slowing and length contraction as in relativity follow. (2) When gravity changes space (distances), clock time changes by the same amount so as to keep the speed of light, and the bending of light (1.75 arcseconds), the delay of radio waves (the Shapiro delay), and the shift of Mercury’s perihelion (43 arcseconds per century) follow. (3) The absolute reference is the universe-dimensional space (the horizon) itself as seen from the gravity-dimensional space. There is no special place in the universe-dimensional space; every position is the same as part of the horizon. For an object at rest with respect to the horizon (one not moving along the horizon), the cosmic microwave background (the 2.7-degree light) arrives with the same temperature from every direction. For all clock and light experiments so far, this view gives the same numbers as relativity. The difference lies in the view: does time itself change, or does the motion of matter change? This view gives reasons why the speed of light cannot be exceeded and why being at rest with respect to the background radiation is special. Moreover, even if there are waves in the gravity-dimensional space that travel faster than light (as considered in the Shohachi model), the order of cause and effect is not broken. The object of the critique is not the numbers of relativity but Einstein’s view of time.
