Mengembangkan Kompetensi Analisis Bahasa Mahasiswa melalui Literasi Kritis dalam Pembelajaran Kajian Kebahasaan: Studi Kasus di Perguruan Tinggi Yogyakarta

Strengthening critical thinking skills is one of the main demands of higher education in the digital era, including in language studies learning. However, language learning in higher education is still often oriented towards mastering theoretical linguistic concepts, so that the development of students' language analysis skills is not optimal. This study aims to examine the implementation of critical literacy in language studies learning and its contribution to the development of students’ language analysis competencies at a university in Yogyakarta. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were obtained through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis involving one lecturer and 25 students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model through the stages of data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the implementation of critical literacy is carried out through critical reading activities, text analysis, reflective discussions, presentations, and academic reflection writing integrated into the learning. The application of critical literacy encourages students to understand language as a social practice related to ideology, power, and social context. In addition, students' language analysis competencies have developed, marked by an increase in their ability to identify implicit meanings, evaluate language use, construct academic arguments, and connect linguistic phenomena with social reality.
