Mariachi: Tradition, cultural identity and internationalization

The axis of this research is the Mariachi, a tradition of Mexican culture that was proclaimed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2011 due to its deep-rooted tradition and its ability to convey feelings, values, and history. Its music has traveled to different regions of the world, promoting intercultural dialogue, and its cry, turned into an evident Mexican manifestation, conveys pride and patriotism. Its arrival in Cuba and the cultural exchange with Mexico fostered the creation of numerous groups and motivated its study, which is the theme that originates this research. The objective is to expose the characteristics of Mariachi, its evolution, and influence on the Cuban population. Under a predominantly qualitative approach, the results of document analysis, the analytical-synthetic method, and the experiential method were examined, which made it possible to determine the format of Mariachi groups, their evolution, and transformation as a symbol of cultural identity.
