Studying Test-Taker Experiences Shared on TikTok about Standardized Testing and College Admission
User experience in educational assessment has been a topic of study in recent years, driven by the inclusion of methodologies from software development and Human-Computer Interface (HCI). In this paper, we present an analysis of the experiences shared in TikTok of Chilean test-takers preparing for a new test battery named PAES (Prueba de Acceso a la Educacion Superior) used for college admission, being used for the first time in November 2022. We will analyze a sample of videos in order to identify potential sources of invalidity. We will categorize the interactions between examinees and the test using Araneda et al.’s (2024) conceptual framework for test-taking experiences and provide a list of invalidity hypotheses about the test from the topics mentioned in the TikToks. We will end with a discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of studying the experiences of the examinees through the data they share on social media platforms like TikTok.
