Las formaciones compuestas en la geolingüística regional española

The aim of this paper is to address an existing gap in the study of word formation by compounding from dialectal point of view, using data from geolectal sources. This study analyzes Spanish compounds, both lexical and syntagmatic, from a formal, semantic, and diatopic perspective. Although composition is generally considered in the literature a much less productive process than derivation, evidence from atlases qualifies this view and demonstrates that it is a productive word-formation process. The results provide a new dataset on the frequency of compounding in popular language and highlight the usefulness of geolinguistic sources for the analysis of lexical morphology.
