Mepolizumab (Nucala)
Reimbursement reviews are comprehensive assessments of the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness, as well as patient and clinician perspectives, of a drug or drug class. The assessments inform nonbinding recommendations that help guide the reimbursement decisions of Canada’s federal, provincial, and territorial governments, with the exception of Quebec. This review assesses mepolizumab (Nucala), 100 mg/mL solution for subcutaneous injection. Prefilled autoinjector or safety syringe. Indication: Proposed indication at the time of review: mepolizumab is indicated as add-on maintenance treatment for adult patients with COPD with an eosinophilic phenotype. Approved indication: as add-on maintenance treatment in adult patients with COPD characterized by raised blood eosinophils inadequately controlled by the combination of an ICS, a LABA, and a LAMA.
