J. Michael Lennon recounts how Phillip Sipiora founded The Mailer Review with no paid staff, budget, or office: securing the partnership of the Norman Mailer Society and the University of South Florida with Mailer’s own blessing, recruiting and training a volunteer staff, and enriching the journal with unpublished and hard-to-find work by Mailer and with his own long interviews. Lennon judges the fifteen volumes Sipiora edited, with the Mailer collections at the Harry Ransom Center and Wilkes University, among the most important repositories of Mailer documents and commentary.
