Rhyacophila evoluta MacLachlan 1879

Rhyacophila evoluta / occidentalis = Rhyacophila evoluta McLachlan, 1879 in Lavandier 1979. TAXO. The morphological differences of the larvae between both species Rhyacophila evoluta and Rhyacophila occidentalis McLachlan, 1879 is mostly based on coloration criteria (Décamps 1965, 1966). We consider these current coloration criteria insufficient for reliable identification, given the potential intraspecific variability. Except for genetically identified larvae (at sites B, C, D, and a 1), even though our larvae would be morphologically identified as R. evoluta following the coloration criteria, we preferred to remain cautious and indicate Rhyacophila evoluta / occidentalis, especially as we collected adults from both species in 2022. DIFF. Following this decision, we preferred to change R. evoluta in Lavandier’s data to R. evoluta / occidentalis, where no adult capture was clearly reported.
