Ideologías en torno al mapudungun en el discurso de docentes de la región del Biobío

This study describes the main linguistic ideologies about Mapudungun present in the discourse of a group of primary and secondary school teachers from the Biobío region. The approach is qualitative and the study is exploratory and descriptive. The sample consists of 12 non-Mapuche teachers currently working in different municipalities of the region. Among the results, different ideologies about Mapudungun were observed, such as (1) the language is part of the memory, history and identity of Chileans (2) it is a rural language, which has a great cultural richness, due to its mystical connection with nature (3) it is a language in disuse, a product of racist ideologies emanating from the State and Chilean society. In general, teachers value Mapudungun primarily from a symbolic and heritage perspective, rather than as a language in active social use. For its revitalization, educators expressed the relevance of incorporating Mapudungun into the national curriculum.
