BRAIN MRI IN CHILDREN WITH CRANIOSYNOSTOSIS: DIFFERENTIATED INDICATIONS IN SYNDROMIC AND ISOLATED FORMS
Craniosynostosis is not only a skull deformity: premature suture fusion may be associated with intracranial hypertension, ventriculomegaly, Chiari I malformation and venous outflow anomalies, especially in syndromic forms [1, 2]. These findings change the surgical strategy, yet brain MRI in young children requires sedation and is time-consuming. Whether MRI should be performed routinely in every child with craniosynostosis or selectively, according to the form of the disease, remains debated.
