The Hidden Socket: Entanglement as Phase-Bearing Hidden Layers without Superluminal Signaling

Paper 98 does not claim to have derived quantum mechanics, the Born rule, or the measurement problem, nor to have shown that the physical vacuum is a graph, nor to have detected any hidden layer. It shows, in one reproducible experiment on explicit graphs and 2×10⁵ sampled trials per setting, that (i) an entangled pair connected through a degree-two hidden node has a topological separation of two edges at every visible separation, measured by breadth-first traversal — two ticks at ten edges and two ticks at ten thousand, against 10,000 for the visible route, an apparent factor of 5,000c that no signal travels; (ii) the same holds in three dimensions, where a face, a face diagonal and a body diagonal cost 12, 12 and 18 visible ticks and 2 hidden ticks alike, so a dimension is only a longer path; (iii) a shared classical record is silent (marginal shift 0.00050 against a noise floor of 0.00447 and 1.000 for a signalling foil) and cannot exceed the Bell bound (CHSH = 2.0001), while a shared phase is equally silent (shift 0.00046, setting-to-outcome information 1.6×10⁻⁷ bits) and reaches CHSH = 2.8302 against 2√2 = 2.8284, flat within sampling across four decades of separation; (iv) the correlation is definite two ticks after the pair is prepared while the extractable information is zero until the visible route closes, so "existing" and "usable" are different events; and (v) one socket serves one pair, so a star of k particles costs k−1 sockets, and the entropy of a cut is the number of crossing hidden edges, giving an area law (S ∝ N^0.688, S/A = 0.306 constant to within 11%) for a short-range layer and a volume law (S ∝ N^1.011) for a long-range one, with a Bekenstein-Hawking coefficient recovered to within 22% as a calibration rather than as a prediction. Locality is never violated in this model; the quantum phase is displaced out of the visible dimensions and the visible dimensions keep their speed limit.
