Nemoura cinerea subsp. cinerea

Nemoura cinerea cinerea (Retzius, 1783) = Nemoura cinerea (Retzius, 1783) in Lavandier 1979. TAXO. N. cinerea was divided into two subspecies by Consiglio (1959): Nemoura cinerea selene Consiglio, 1959, mainly present in Italy and on the southern slopes of the Alps, and the nominal species N. cinerea cinerea. DIST-2022. Large western palearctic subspecies (DeWalt et al. 2026), ecologically very ubiquitous and living over a very wide altitudinal and thermal range (Graf et al. 2026), N. cinerea cinerea is rather rare on the Estaragne catchment and seems to colonise rare microhabitats in the lentic environments with fine organic matter, essentially at the crenal parts. Its autochthony was not validated at the middle part of Estaragne (site R) as no larvae were collected contrary to the nearby tributary a 4. Note however that, even if only adults (but both male and female) were sampled at sites a 5 and a 6 b (Fig. 3 C), its autochthony was validated in both sites, as the biotope was particularly suitable for this species. DIFF. The only subspecies sampled in 2022 is N. cinerea cinerea and in view of the known distribution of this subspecies, we validate the nominal subspecies for Lavandier’s dataset and correct Lavandier’s dataset accordingly.
