Reflexive Descent to Minimal Seeds in the Kreuzer–Skarke List

Every reflexive polytope descends to a minimal seed through reflexive polytopes, one cover at a time. We prove that the largest length Dd of a shortest such descent is 5 in dimension two and 11 in dimension three, that 22 ≤ D4 ≤ 50, and that Dd grows at least linearly with d.

Abstract

Every reflexive polytope descends to a minimal seed through reflexive polytopes, one cover at a time. We prove that the largest length Dd of a shortest such descent is 5 in dimension two and 11 in dimension three, that 22 ≤ D4 ≤ 50, and that Dd grows at least linearly with d.
