Sustainability Disclosure Patterns in the First Year of Mandatory Reporting: Evidence From Türkiye
ABSTRACT This study examines initial disclosure alignment and variation in the first year of mandatory sustainability reporting. Using a framework consisting of 58 criteria based on the Türkiye Sustainability Reporting Standards (TSRS), the 2024 sustainability reports of publicly listed cement companies in Türkiye were analyzed. The disclosure criteria were grouped into 11 analytical dimensions to examine differences in firms' reporting patterns. The study employed descriptive statistics and hierarchical cluster analysis. The findings revealed three exploratory disclosure profiles. The relatively high disclosure scores and narrow dispersion indicate broadly similar initial disclosure levels across the sector. However, heterogeneity was observed across reporting dimensions, and firms exhibited different patterns in terms of disclosure emphasis. Taken together, these findings indicate that, in the first year of mandatory reporting, firms showed relatively similar disclosure levels, while differences remained across reporting dimensions.
