The paper classifies foreign models of textile industry development and substantiates the criteria for adapting them to national economic conditions. Drawing on data for seven countries, a four-type typology is constructed along the dimensions of the share of finished garments in exports and export dynamics, and a three-criterion adaptation index is proposed. The models structurally closest to Uzbekistan are identified and a procedure for the selective transfer of their elements is substantiated
