Craft Is All We Have
“Craft is all we have” frames craft as an emancipatory methodology that challenges the abstractions of capitalist time and space. Drawing on theoretical contributions from and beyond contemporary craft discourse, the text positions craft as a dynamic epistemological field — relational, situated, and resistant to the temporal and spatial logics of extraction, acceleration, and commodification. Rather than a nostalgic return to tradition, craft is articulated here as a plural, dividual process: one that sustains embodied knowledge, cultivates care, and generates alternative economies of making. As our social and material systems strain under capitalist extractivism, craft offers critical tools for imagining and enacting more attentive, grounded, and transformative forms of life and labour.
