Triaenomeros yadirae sp. nov. (Figs 9–14) urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act: CBBCB7C2-5759-44AC-890B-DDAB3524C193 Etymology. The species is named after Yadira Giler Mejía (Tesoro Escondido Reserve) for her work on conservation of threatened forests in the Ecuadorian Chocó, promoting scientific research, environmental education and community projects. Type material. 1 α ♂ holotype (QCAZI 278590), 1 ♀ paratype (QCAZI 278591), Ecuador, Esmeraldas, Santo Domingo de Onzole, Tesoro Escondido Reserve, pathways that traverse areas where cacao trees are cultivated under the shade of larger trees (0.54128°, -79.14464°, alt.: 287 m), 15.xii.2021, APL Giupponi, AA Granado, AB Kury & MA Medrano leg.; 3 α ♂, 3 β ♂, 7 ♀ paratypes (MNRJ 2902), same data as holotype. Distribution (Fig. 2): Ecuador, Esmeraldas, on the fringes of the WWF terrestrial ecoregion NT0145 (Northwestern Andean montane forests), bordering NT0178 (Western Ecuador moist forests). Diagnosis. Free tergite II in both sexes with a transverse row of setiferous tubercles, without a median larger tubercle. Free tergite III with a robust median spiniform apophysis, distally trifurcate, the two accessory points directed ventrally; and a pair of large curved paramedian horns arising basally. Anal operculum in males with a pair of paramedian parallel conical apophyses. Trochanter IV: in major males the median retrolateral apophysis (green) and the retroventral apophysis (blue) both enlarged, neither as dominant as the green apophysis of T. giovannii; the retroventral apophysis (blue) conspicuous in all morphs (Fig. 11c). Femur IV in both sexeswith two larger retrolateral spiniform apophyses. Macrosetae E1–E2 inserted subdistally, between MS C2 and D1 (contrasting with inserted proximally, next to the MS A 2–3 in T. giovannii). Description (major male holotype QCAZI 278590). Measurements in Tables 3 and 4. Dorsum (Figs 9–10). Dorsal scutum outline in dorsal view type alpha, but with posterior constriction attenuated, so that it is an intermediate between alpha and beta. Single ozopore domed. Ocularium stadium-shaped, with a pair of small spines. Lateral areas of scutum with a single row of acuminate tubercles at areas I and II. Mesotergum divided into 4 areas; areas III and IV incompletely separated by transversal lateral grooves. Area I divided into widely connected left and right halves by a median groove. Dorsal scutum fairly smooth, with a pair of paramedian tubercles each on areas I, II and III (here they are considerably larger). Free tergite I and II each with a transversal row of setiferous tubercles. All free tergites with an acute posterior corner. Free tergite III trifurcate: armed with a robust median spiniform apophysis which bears one pair of accessory branches on each side and a pair of stout paramedian curved apophyses. Venter. Cx I–III small, radiating from sternum, Cx III perpendicular to main body axis. Cx II to IV united by a few tubercular bridges concentrated on lateral parts. Cx IV much larger than the others combined, slanted. Genital operculum minuscule. Stigmatic area slingshot-shaped, with the main axis depressed in the middle. Its posterior rim armed with 8 lateral acuminate tubercles each side. Stigmata slanted, elongated. Posterior border of the stigmatic area strongly concave. Free sternites 3–6 all fitting the one in front, becoming less and less concave. Free sternites 7/8 fused, with a transversal row of setiferous tubercles. Anal operculum with transversal row of a few setiferous tubercles and a pair of parallel spiniform apophyses. Chelicera. Monomorphic. Neither basichelicerite nor hand incrassate or swollen. No special armature present. Pedipalpus (Fig. 11). General build is delicate. Tr short, with a dorsal and a ventral setiferous tubercle each on a mound. Fe subcylindrical, with no notable armature, except for a ventro-basal setiferous tubercle, substraight, bent distally. Ti and Ta somewhat flattened ventrally and slightly convex dorsally. Megaspines are: Ti ectal IiIi, mesal IiIii; Ta ectal IiI, mesal IiIi. Legs. Cx II with large retrodorsal setiferous tubercle. Cx IV features a robust, uniramous retrodorsal apical apophysis pointing backward. Tr I–IV each with several setiferous tubercles, with pedestals growing more robust posteriorly until reaching a very large size on Tr IV. Fe I–III without notable armature. Fe IV with dorsal, prodorsal, proventral, retroventral rows of thick setiferous tubercles. Additionally, a retrolateral row is present, with two of the distal spines notably larger than the rest. Pa, Ti and Mt IV exhibit similar rows of coarse setiferous tubercles, retrolateral larger. Apex of the calcaneus not swollen. Tarsal counts: 6(3)-6(3)/12(3)-11(3)/7-7/7-7. Color (in alcohol). Body and appendages with Dark Grayish Red (20) background, with some Pinkish Gray (10) mottling and reticulation, including areolas around the granules. Cx I–IV ventrally with extensive honeycombed reticle. Mt I–IV with several light rings. Male genitalia (Figs. 11–13). Ventral plate clearly divided into two regions: a distal region roughly mushroom-shaped in dorsal and ventral views, with a neck formed by parallel sides and a head rounded and slightly cleft distally. Proximal region growing wider distally, with sides strongly convex. Glans sac short, with a bulged pedestal. Stylus straight, with roughly spherical swollen head, without accessory spines or flaps. Macrosetae C1–C2 slender, inserted on the dorso-distal part of the neck, slightly curved. MS A1–A3 short, sturdy, arranged in an arch on the convex part of the proximal region. MS D1 with bifid tip and intermediate between the As and the Cs both in shape and in insertion. MS B similar to the As, inserted most proximally and ventrally on the lateral rim of the proximal region. MS E1–E2 minute, forming a dorsal rectangle, inserted subdistally, between MS C2 and D1. Sexual and male dimorphism, comparing a major male with a minor male (MNRJ 2902) and a female (QCAZI 278591). The dorsal scutum is similar in all morphs, however in females the coda is slightly more prominent, flaring, and the free tergites wider, without acuminate corners. Anal operculum of major male armed with a pair of divergent, flat, robust, and large apophyses. In minor males the apophyses are greatly reduced to blunt cones. In females there is only a pair of small tubercles. Free tergite III of major males armed with extremely robust trifurcate apophysis. In minor males this apophysis is still trifurcate, but reduced, and in females more extremely reduced. Trochanter IV in all morphs with three retrolateral spiniform apophyses and one retroventral apophysis; in the major male the median retrolateral (green) and the retroventral (blue) are both enlarged, the retroventral conspicuous in all morphs; in minor males and females the apophyses are considerably smaller.. Tarsal counts: [minor male] 6(3)- 6(3)/12(3)-11(3)/7-7/7-7; [female] 6(3)-6(3)/12(3)-12(3)/7-7/7-7.
