Two new oil-collecting bees of Centris (Hemisiella) Moure from Peru, with the description of the smallest member of the tribe Centridini (Hymenoptera: Apidae)
Centris (Hemisiella) Moure is one of several subgenera within Centris Fabricius—the most abundant, diverse, and key group of oil-collecting bees in the New World. This study describes and illustrates two new species from Peru, Centris buchmanni sp. nov. and C. diminuta sp. nov., the latter distinguished as the smallest known species among centridine bees. The description of these two new species expands our understanding of this solitary bee lineage in South America.
