The Corten Wind Turbine: The Radical Advantages of Five or Seven Rotor Blades - version 2

The Corten wind turbine is a new wind turbine design with the potential to largely reduce the five major environmental drawbacks of wind energy: shadow flicker, landscape impact, noise, bird mortality and composite waste. At the same time, it offers +7% onshore yield and +4% offshore yield per unit of cost. By addressing the environmental and societal impacts that constrain wind energy deployment, it could unlock substantial additional capacity. If these advantages are indeed realised, scenarios indicate that, by 2050, the Corten wind turbine could achieve a 60% market share in Europe's onshore market and 30% offshore, increasing onshore wind capacity by 15% and offshore capacity by 20%. The Corten wind turbine could therefore play a key role in accelerating the energy transition.
