The Language of Labels in Physics: an Overview of a Series
Six texts describe matter as a field of comoving labels whose relabellings preserve the label volume: four papers (cosmic media, foundations, the cosmological constant, galaxies), a catalogue of tests and a theorem base. This overview gives the reading order, collects the premises of the main results in one table and sorts every number of the framework into five classes: structural numbers, counts, values at stable points, relations, and labels, the values that symmetry leaves free. Under the stated premises the media of cosmology follow from the number of labels and a condition on the action, and the cosmological constant is a constant of integration. Under the stated premises the Tully–Fisher slope follows from the spectral index, while the core density does not; the signature (1,3), the trace-free Einstein equation and half-integer spin also follow. Six postulates and thirteen groups of labels remain. Of 62 catalogue items, 19 differ from the standard picture with its usual dark-matter extensions and 7 from MOND; a literature sweep, mostly of abstracts, found none refuted as stated. Symmetry fixes forms and counts, not values.
