Autoimmune Connective Tissue Diseases
Article Description This academic article provides a comprehensive overview of autoimmune connective tissue diseases, focusing on three major conditions: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Systemic Sclerosis (Scleroderma), and Dermatomyositis. The article explores the pathogenesis, epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic approaches, treatment strategies, and prognosis of these disorders. It explains how genetic susceptibility, environmental factors, hormonal influences, and immune system dysfunction contribute to autoimmune tissue damage. Special attention is given to characteristic clinical features, including the malar rash of lupus, skin thickening and Raynaud phenomenon in scleroderma, and heliotrope rash and Gottron papules in dermatomyositis. The article also discusses important diagnostic markers, autoantibodies, laboratory investigations, modern therapeutic approaches, overlap syndromes, and multidisciplinary patient management. Keywords: Autoimmune diseases, Connective tissue diseases, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Scleroderma, Dermatomyositis, Autoantibodies, Pathogenesis, Clinical Diagnosis, Immunosuppressive Therapy.
