Ecdyonurus undetermined Eaton 1868

Ecdyonurus spp. Eaton, 1868 = Ecdyonurus forcipula Pictet, 1843 in Lavandier 1979. TAXO-2022. Ecdyonurus was only captured at the larval stage in 2022. Given the great difficulty to identify the larvae of this genus at the species level in the Pyrenees, including both endemic and still undescribed species (Opie-benthos 2026), we did not attempt to identify the specimens of this very difficult taxonomic group. Note, however, that there are at least four potential known species in Estaragne stream: Ecdyonurus alaini Bauernfeind, 2020; Ecdyonurus angelieri Thomas, 1968; Ecdyonurus macani Thomas & Sowa, 1970 and Ecdyonurus venosus (Fabricius, 1775). As no particular morphotypes were identified, we have decided not to carry out genetic analysis for the genus Ecdyonurus. DIFF. Regarding the difficulty to identify larvae of Ecdyonurus species, the large number of potential species in the Pyrenees, and the description of E. alaini after Lavandier’s work, we propose to change E. forcipula to Ecdyonurus spp. in Lavandier’s dataset. Furthermore, note that E. forcipula has been synonymised with E. venosus.
