THE NANOTECHNOLOGY REVOLUTION IN MEDICINE

Nanotechnology enables the engineering of medical materials whose size and surface properties influence biological interactions. Objective: To examine its contribution to treatment and diagnosis while distinguishing clinical evidence from experimental promise. Methods: A focused narrative review of selected clinical studies and United States Food and Drug Administration guidance was conducted. Results: Lipid nanoparticles have enabled RNA interference therapy, messenger RNA vaccination, and early human gene editing. Diagnostic and regenerative applications remain uneven in clinical maturity. Discussion: Therapeutic value depends on reproducible manufacturing, biological delivery, and indication-specific safety. Conclusion: Nanotechnology is transforming selected areas of medicine, but broader adoption requires evidence of meaningful patient benefit rather than nanoscale performance alone.
