Mimosa-Mimicking Adaptive Dual-Mode Thermal Management Device for Personal Moisture and Thermal Management
Abstract Adaptive dual-mode thermal management systems, which intelligently switch between heating and cooling based on environmental or physiological needs, hold transformative potential across multiple domains. Herein, a wearable mimosa-mimicking passive thermal management device (MTMD) is presented. The MTMD integrates a radiative and unidirectional water transportation Janus silk fabric as the cooling component and a flexible graphene film with photothermal, infrared-blocking, and moisture-blocking properties as the heating component. A modified wet-responsive Nafion membrane is employed as a switcher, which dynamically flattens/curls to enable/mute heating and cooling components. Experiments on human subjects demonstrate superior adaptive PPTM capability, with a maximum warming effect of 6.4 °C and a cooling effect of 2.9 °C compared with traditional cotton fabric, and a wide working range from 14 to 26 °C. The MTMD shows outstanding potential in personal thermal-moisture management, especially in sports scenarios, in seasons with significant temperature variations such as spring and autumn.
