Who Constructed the Image of Carlo Acutis?

This paper critically examines the central role of Antonia Salzano Acutis, mother of Carlo Acutis, in shaping the public image of her son following his death in 2006. Particular attention is given to her accounts of mystical experiences, posthumous apparitions, prophetic dreams, and events interpreted as supernatural signs. The central issue is the historical credibility and independence of these testimonies. The repetition of one person's account across multiple media outlets does not constitute independent corroboration. Moreover, a prophecy reported after the event it allegedly predicted cannot be assigned the same evidentiary value as a contemporaneous record established before that event. This paper also examines recollections provided by Carlo's former classmates and teachers, as well as Salzano's reported reaction to journalistic accounts that differed from the extraordinary image of her son. The argument advanced here is that the mystical claims examined have not been independently established by the publicly available sources reviewed. Their repeated reliance on retrospective personal testimony substantially limits their historical credibility.
