Effect of the “Ruang Bidan” Android Application on IUD Contraceptive Knowledge Among Women of Reproductive Age

Background: Intrauterine Device (IUD) utilization remains low in Indonesia despite its effectiveness as a long-acting contraceptive method. Evidence on rigorously developed IUD education applications for women of reproductive age (WRA) remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the association between the 'Ruang Bidan' Android application and IUD contraceptive knowledge among women of reproductive age. Methods: This pre-experimental one-group pretest and posttest study, reported according to TREND guidelines, enrolled 54 WRA using consecutive sampling; the “Ruang Bidan” Android Application was the intervention, and IUD contraceptive knowledge was the primary outcome, measured using a 30-item knowledge questionnaire before and after two weeks, with data analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and multivariable binary logistic regression (Backward LR). Results: The application was rated valid and highly feasible by media/IT experts (mean 81.96%) and content experts (mean 86.51%), with an average content-validity Aiken’s V of 0.75. Practicality testing based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) showed high acceptance, with 94.4% of respondents rating the application “practical.” The proportion of respondents with “good” knowledge increased from 35.2% (pretest) to 79.6% (posttest), while “poor” knowledge decreased from 64.8% to 20.4%. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest knowledge scores (Z = -4.536, p < 0.001). Binary logistic regression identified perceived ease of use (OR = 23.24, p = 0.015) and educational level (OR = 2.57, p = 0.030) as significant predictors of knowledge improvement. Conclusion: Use of the “Ruang Bidan” Android Application was associated with improved IUD contraceptive knowledge. The Application may complement conventional family planning counseling.
