The Trichoptera of Panama XXX. Trichoptera of the Piedra Jabón Geosite with description of a new species

Herein we report on preliminary data for the Trichoptera assemblage for the Piedra Jabón Geosite, a proposed UNESCO defined geological site located in Coclé Province, near Penonomé. Seven streams were sampled during 2022–2023. A total of 81 species were identified distributed among 12 caddisfly families. In addition, from this stream we describe and illustrate one new species of microcaddisfly, Neotrichia cornejoae sp. nov. (Hydroptilidae) and present one new country record for Panama (Hydroptilidae: Hydroptila brailovskyi Bueno-Soria). In addition to the new species described herein, one new species was previously described from this geosite and four more potential new species await description. With these two new additions, there are now 553 species of caddisflies known from Panama, distributed among 15 families and 56 genera.
