Cantantes, pianistas, compositoras y directoras: Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica 1897-1949

This article aims to highlight the professional careers and biographical backgrounds of female musicians who worked within a conservative Costa Rican society between 1897 and 1950. To achieve this objective, the historical archives of the National Theater of Costa Rica from this period were examined, revealing the names of female singers, pianists, composers, and conductors, along with their repertoires. The findings bring to light the trajectories of Costa Rican women who became significant figures in the music field, challenging gender stereotypes by participating in artistic activities and moving from the private to the public sphere. Making these women visible contributes to the cause of social justice, as it recognizes and documents women's legacy in the field of music in Costa Rica between 1897 and 1950.
