Sales growth conditions the relationship between cost management and business liquidity

Background Cost management and business liquidity are determinants of the stability of industrial firms, but little is known about how it depends on the commercial context. It was determined whether cost management influences the liquidity of an industrial firm in Pomalca, Peru (2011–2025), under the moderating effect of inventory turnover and sales growth. Methods An applied, quantitative, non-experimental, longitudinal and correlational-explanatory study with the financial statements of the firm (2011–2025, census sampling, n = 15), analyzed by means of a documentary file and linear regression with robust HAC/Newey-West errors in R 4.6.1. Results Cost management did not show a direct effect on current liquidity (β = 0.072; p = 0.146), but its interaction with sales growth was significant (β = 0.001; p = 0.009). Current liquidity, acid test, and net working capital significantly influenced cost management (p = 0.043; 0.040; 0.003), moderated by sales growth (adjusted R 2 64.0%–68.9%). Conclusions Cost management does not directly influence liquidity; its effect only appears with sales growth, while liquidity does directly influence cost management, which functions as a limiting condition of this relationship.
