KELUHAN DERMATITIS KONTAK PADA PEKERJA BENGKEL OTOMOTIF TRADISIONAL DI KECAMATAN SUKARAJA, KABUPATEN BOGOR

Contact dermatitis is an occupational skin disorder frequently experienced by automotive workshop workers due to repeated exposure to oil, gasoline, paint thinner, and battery acid. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with contact dermatitis symptoms among workers in traditional automotive workshops in Sukaraja District, Bogor Regency, in 2026. This quantitative, observational, analytical study employed a cross-sectional design and was conducted between July and August 2026. The study population consisted of all workers across 12 workshops; a total sampling method was used, resulting in a sample of 36 workers. Data were collected through questionnaire-based interviews (covering dermatitis symptoms, age, length of employment, daily working hours, and personal hygiene) and observations using a checklist (for the use of personal protective equipment/PPE). The personal hygiene questionnaire was pilot-tested on 10 workers; four out of six items were found to be valid and reliable (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.843). Analysis included univariate and bivariate tests using Fisher’s Exact Test, supplemented by the calculation of prevalence ratios (PR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). The results showed that 10 out of 36 workers (27.8%) experienced symptoms of contact dermatitis. Daily working hours were significantly associated with these symptoms (p = 0.039; PR = 3.41; 95% CI: 1.20–9.72), whereas age (p = 0.226), length of employment (p = 0.274), personal hygiene (p = 0.071), and the use of PPE (p = 0.686) did not show a significant association. Workers who work more than 8 hours per day are at a higher risk of developing these symptoms; therefore, limiting the duration of exposure to chemical substances, providing PPE, and ensuring access to hygiene facilities should be prioritized for prevention.
