Nūyori VII: Certified Optimization of Multilayer Barrier Films for Sustainable Packaging - Nonlinear Water and Oxygen Transport, Sharp Finite-Layer Guarantees, and Exact Interface Frontiers
Nūyori ∷ Sehaŋ VII develops a mathematical and computational framework for certified multilayer barrier-film optimization, motivated by sustainable packaging and plastic-replacement research. It addresses humidity-dependent nonlinear water transport and oxygen permeation in binary polymer laminates, including fixed material inventories, protective outer layers, exposure reversal, interface-count limits and minimum-layer-thickness constraints. The release contains a 45-page research report with full technical proofs, an 11-page assessment and comparison with 24 material alternatives, executable Python source, explicit synthetic coefficient models, exact rational certificates, layer specifications, figures and reproducibility instructions. Its results concern conditional transport theory and synthetic computational benchmarks; no newly manufactured polymer or experimentally demonstrated global plastic replacement is claimed. Where the work advances the design method 1. Sharp second-order finite-layer recovery for independent nonlinear transport laws Under positive bounded C² coefficient and guard-extension assumptions, with bounds uniform across the admitted exposure family, any measurable relaxed design can be realized by one finite pure-phase film preserving exact material inventories and protective skins. The same physical construction serves all admitted exposures, including both humidity directions. With N free cells, the construction uses at most 2N interfaces. Its correctly boundary-matched oxygen-resistance error is bounded by C₂(L_f/N)², with explicit coefficient-derived constants. This improves the guaranteed recovery order of the earlier general first-order construction under the stronger smoothness assumptions. A retained exact example proves that exponent two is worst-case optimal across the stated smooth constitutive class. The general theorem also permits independent nonlinear water and oxygen responses, removing the oxygen-potential compatibility condition required by the earlier exact-solvable model. The improvement concerns terminal and integrated responses. It does not assert uniform second-order approximation of every within-layer activity profile. A fixed positive minimum layer thickness requires separate analysis. Established area-and-centroid pulse geometry and control-relaxation methods are credited explicitly. 2. Exact interface-count frontiers for unequal material inventories and opposing slopes A separate analytical result extends the exact interface frontier beyond equal phase inventories and balanced opposing water-response slopes. Within its stated positive affine-reciprocal/common-oxygen-potential subclass, every feasible finite interface budget has an explicit globally attaining palindromic construction. The global bound includes asymmetric competitors. The theorem identifies the protective-skin activation boundary, derives the unrestricted supremum, proves nonattainment by any measurable pure-phase film, and supplies sharp inverse-square asymptotic constants. Its advantage is an explicit global bound together with an attaining physical arrangement for the specified class. Minimum-thickness optimality follows where the attaining stack satisfies every layer floor. Otherwise, the unequal-material examples retain a certified feasible-lower/count-upper sandwich rather than claiming an unproved exact optimum. 3. A certified five-layer advantage over every admissible three-layer design The executed nonlinear benchmark uses independent oxygen laws that cannot satisfy the earlier common-potential relation. One unchanged physical film serves two coefficient scenarios and both exposure directions. The manufacturing class has: Total thickness L = 1. Exact inventories H_A = 0.8 and H_B = 0.2. Outer A layers at least 0.05. Every merged layer at least 0.02. At most four interfaces. The certificate covers every admissible asymmetric three-layer and five-layer arrangement in this class. A feasible common film is: A(0.267173) / B(0.1) / A(0.265654) / B(0.1) / A(0.267173). Outward-rounded certified bounds establish: Five-layer candidate’s worst oxygen resistance: at least 2.018624455809. Global upper bound for every admissible three-layer film: 1.933370475937. Guaranteed resistance advantage over every three-layer arrangement: at least 4.409603%. Upper bound on the complete admissible three-/five-layer manufacturing class: 2.280775121004. Remaining whole-class upper-to-lower gap: at most 12.9866%. Higher resistance means a better oxygen barrier within this model. The 4.409603% result compares the candidate with the entire specified three-layer class, rather than one selected baseline. The remaining 12.9866% gap is reported explicitly: exact global optimality of the five-layer candidate is not claimed. All values are normalized synthetic results, not measured gains over commercial plastics. 4. Auditable global certificates and sensitivities without coefficient derivatives The work supplies complete cumulative-material coordinates for manufactured A-ended binary films, a sharp constant-one bound for cumulative-inventory perturbations, and a local isometry below half the minimum layer thickness. These coordinates support rigorous covering bounds without an unnecessary dimension factor in that primitive metric. Exact layer-flow, oxygen-cost and boundary-root sensitivity formulas require positive continuous coefficient values and layer costs, rather than derivatives of the material curves. This broadens the regularity of the finite-layer sensitivity theory and supports validated local gradient bounds. The saved benchmark certificate contains 18 three-layer leaves and 1,348 five-layer leaves. Production and separately run internal audit replays checked all 1,366 leaves, complete split-tree coverage, rational water-root brackets, response enclosures, physical feasibility and box upper bounds. Four deliberate certificate corruptions were rejected. The internal audit reused the separately inspected arithmetic kernel; it is not external peer review or a wholly independent arithmetic implementation. The executed evaluator specializes to the declared quadratic-water/polynomial-oxygen model. 5. A measurement-to-design bridge with explicit uncertainty and identifiability limits For a homogeneous specimen of thickness ℓ, suitably paired steady humidity-window measurements satisfy: A = ℓJ = ∫K(a)daB = JR = ∫K(a)q(a)da. These identities connect measured water flux and oxygen resistance to local coefficient laws. The report derives finite-window, derivative-free coefficient enclosures with supplied regularity bounds, propagates coefficient uncertainty into design guarantees, and separates numerical evaluation error, finite-layer approximation and material-law uncertainty. A complementary theorem proves that finitely many humidity windows cannot uniquely identify unrestricted smooth local laws. The work also identifies an exact service limit: with fixed inventories, nonincreasing local oxygen-resistance densities, and a scenario family including maximum humidity on both faces, every admissible arrangement has the same worst-case steady resistance. Layer order alone cannot improve that intrinsic fully humid bound. Applications, scope and reproducibility The framework supports mathematical laminate design, humidity-sensitive barrier optimization, sustainable-packaging research, interval-based verification, robust optimal control and reproducible synthetic scientific benchmarks. It helps quantify what a proposed geometry achieves, how far it may remain from a class optimum, and which coefficient measurements are needed before material qualification. The physical model is steady, local, binary and one-dimensional, with fixed thickness, ideal continuous-activity interfaces and a nonperturbing oxygen probe. Swelling, hysteresis, interfacial resistance, reactions, lateral bypass and unmodeled multicomponent cross effects are excluded. The general recovery theorem, exact opposing-slope frontier and executed manufacturing benchmark retain their distinct assumptions. Mechanical strength, adhesion, migration, recovery, biodegradation, carbon fate, processability, cost, industrial scale and equal-function life-cycle performance are not inferred from an oxygen-transport certificate. The 24-alternative comparison is an evidence map rather than an experimentally matched material league table. Superiority is established in the specific mathematical guarantees and synthetic architecture comparison described above. Universal material superiority remains unestablished. The accompanying package includes proofs, model definitions, canonical rational endpoints, source code, replayers, negative controls, figures, dependency information and verification instructions. Ordinary floating convergence illustrations are labelled separately from validated interval certificates. Established pulse-width modulation, relaxation, comparison, calculus and global-optimization methods are credited; the possible specialized contribution is the sharp common-film transport synthesis and exact unequal-material occupation frontier.
