A Covariant Geometric Bridge Toward the Cosmic Differentiation Field

This work develops a covariant geometric framework for investigating a proposed differentiation diagnostic constructed from the Hessian of a scalar field coupled to gravity. It examines the mathematical relationship between the projected, trace-free scalar-field Hessian and the shear of the congruence defined by the scalar-field gradient, establishing the precise domain in which the corresponding diagnostic is equivalent to the shear scalar. The paper constitutes an intermediate theoretical step in a broader research programme aimed at determining whether the proposed Cosmic Differentiation Field can be associated with independent dynamical content or with physically distinguishable effects. It does not claim to establish a new fundamental field, an additional degree of freedom, or a new physical mechanism. Instead, it identifies the mathematical foundation and unresolved questions that must guide subsequent work: deriving a consistent evolution system, testing whether any additional dynamical content exists beyond established geometric quantities, and investigating possible consequences for black-hole perturbation spectra and, at later stages, radiation and relativistic jets. Any claim of new physics remains conditional on demonstrating mathematical consistency, dynamical independence where applicable, and quantitative predictions distinguishable from those of the reference theory. The present paper is therefore intended as a geometric and methodological bridge toward these tests, rather than as a completed demonstration of the Cosmic Differentiation Field.
