Pathways for Developing Outstanding Teacher Studios in Higher Vocational Colleges

Outstanding teacher studios can organise sustained inquiry into classroom problems in higher vocational colleges. Their educational value depends on how collective work is supported and evaluated. This paper develops a development framework through literature and policy analysis, mechanism comparison and programme design. It defines a studio as a school-supported group led by an experienced teacher, with colleagues and enterprise mentors contributing to an agreed programme of professional learning. Three Chinese policy documents provide distinct references for studio-related development, teaching innovation teams and recognition of dual-qualified teachers. Research on professional development and professional learning communities informs the proposed allocation of responsibilities and learning activities. The process begins with a documented teaching problem, proceeds through joint planning and observation, and uses student work to guide revision. Enterprise tasks enter teaching after their technical relevance, disclosure conditions and instructional suitability have been reviewed. Differentiated development tasks allow members to assume greater responsibility as their competence grows. Evaluation examines teacher learning and classroom change alongside workload, resource reuse and leadership continuity. The paper presents a theoretical proposal without institutional intervention data or measured effects. A future pilot should examine feasibility and whether teachers can sustain and transfer changes beyond the studio's original participants.
