Rancang Bangun Mesin Pemipil Biji Jagung Metode Silinder Spiral Penggerak Motor Listrik Kapasitas 30 Kg/Jam

Corn shelling is a crucial post-harvest stage that determines time and labor efficiency. However, many small-scale farmers still rely on manual methods characterized by low productivity and relatively long processing times. This study aims to design and construct a spiral cylinder-based corn sheller powered by an electric motor, with a target capacity of 30 kg/hour. The research methodology includes needs analysis, mechanical design, fabrication, and machine performance testing. Testing was conducted using 30 kg of hybrid corn with a moisture content of approximately 12%, divided into three sessions of 10 kg each, lasting 20 minutes per session. The evaluation parameters included working capacity, shelling efficiency, and the level of grain damage. The results showed that the machine achieved an average working capacity of 30 kg/hour, with a shelling efficiency of 83.3% and minimal grain damage. These findings indicate that the spiral cylinder mechanism can support stable and effective shelling operations. The use of an electric motor also provides an alternative for reducing dependence on manual labor during post-harvest activities. The developed machine has the potential to help smallholder farmers improve productivity and operational efficiency at an affordable manufacturing cost. Therefore, this corn sheller can serve as an appropriate technological alternative to support more effective post-harvest corn handling and improve the efficiency of small-scale agricultural production.
