IoT-Based Hotel Guest Service Automation System Using Voice Commands and Real-Time Cloud-Based Request Management
Hotel guests usually ask for room cleaning, food or maintenance by telephoning the reception desk or speaking to staff, so requests are recorded by hand and neither guest nor staff can easily see their status. This paper presents the design and partial implementation of an engineering prototype, an IoT-based guest service automation system, that turns this exchange into a structured digital workflow. A guest speaks to an ESP32 device with a digital microphone; the audio is sent over Wi-Fi by HTTP to a Python backend built with FastAPI, where it is to be transcribed, interpreted and stored as a structured record in a Supabase PostgreSQL table. Hotel staff view and update requests through a Streamlit dashboard that supports a Pending-to-Completed status workflow. The paper describes the layered architecture, request data model and processing algorithm, and reports the prototype’s status candidly: microphone capture, the LCD and an isolated database insert have worked, whereas ESP32-to-backend communication and dashboard-to-database persistence still showed integration faults (a refused connection and inconsistent storage) when this paper was prepared. No performance figures are claimed. The contribution is an integrated reference architecture, a documented set of integration problems and a plan for formal evaluation; the main limitation is that the complete voice-to-dashboard path is not yet verified.
