A Tunable Non‐Contact Rotating Magnetic Field System for Animal Studies: Design and Characterization

Systematic investigation of magnetobiological effects requires exposure platforms with defined, well-characterized, and adjustable magnetic-field parameters. However, many existing systems offer limited control over field configuration and remain incompletely characterized, which can hinder reproducibility and comparisons across studies. In this study, we developed and characterized a tunable, non-contact rotating magnetic field (RMF) exposure platform for animal studies. The platform uses rotating permanent magnets and permits adjustment of magnet spacing, rotational frequency, and pole configuration, enabling systematic variation of key exposure parameters within a common device geometry. Finite-element simulations were used to characterize the spatial magnetic-field distributions under different pole configurations and magnet spacings, whereas temperature, noise, and platform displacement measurements were used to assess operational stability. The simulations predicted distinct configuration- and spacing-dependent spatial field patterns, while operational testing showed stable device performance under the tested conditions. A limited in vivo application was included solely to demonstrate practical feasibility under controlled exposure conditions; the associated biological observations were not interpreted as independent evidence of therapeutic efficacy. Overall, this work provides a tunable RMF exposure platform to support standardized preclinical studies and parameter-controlled investigations of biological responses to rotating magnetic fields.
