Purpose. The purpose of this article is a comparative analysis of existing design solutions of transformer converters of the number of phases, determination of their main technical features, advantages and limitations, as well as establishment of characteristic areas of practical application of various methods of forming multiphase power supply systems. Methodology. The study was carried out on the basis of analysis and generalization of scientific and technical publications devoted to transformer conversion of the number of phases. Designs with different winding connection schemes, coil configurations and spatial structure of magnetic cores were considered. The comparative analysis was carried out according to such main characteristics as symmetry of output phases, compactness, possibility of voltage regulation, complexity of manufacture and scope of application. Results. The main design solutions of transformer converters for forming five-, six-, seven- and other multiphase systems were considered. It was established that designs with a series connection of coils are characterized by manufacturability and the possibility of scaling by the number of phases, while the use of special configurations of magnetic circuits allows to increase the symmetry of phase electromotive forces, reduce the leakage inductance or provide phase shift regulation. It was found that the complication of the design of the active part is accompanied by increased requirements for manufacturing accuracy and an increase in technological complexity. Scientific novelty. Based on the study of known scientific sources, a comparative analysis of various design solutions of transformer number of phase converters was performed according to the set of main technical characteristics. The features of the application of schemes with different configurations of windings and magnetic circuits were summarized and the characteristic advantages and limitations of each of the considered approaches were determined. Practical significance. The results obtained can be used when choosing the design of transformer number of phase converters for electric drives, rectifier units, industrial electrotechnical complexes and other multiphase power supply systems. The above comparison allows us to take into account the requirements for phase symmetry, compactness, control, manufacturability and operating conditions when choosing an appropriate design solution.
